Goodness Gracious Fourth Grade is on Fire!

Today, I had so much fun working on my 50's theme!  I got the hallway bulletin board finished and the classroom door.  Here are the results!

I got the black paper, large piano topper, and keyboard border at The School Box.  I used 5 sheets of red, orange, and yellow construction paper for the flames.  I hand drew them and cut them out.  I tucked them into the bottom border until I liked it.  Finally, I stapled it down.  Also, I put one red flame and one orange flame in the top corners.  I found a font to type out, "Goodness Gracious Fourth Grade Is On Fire."  I used a free font called Flame.  I enlarged it to 350 pt in MicroSoft Word.  Then, I cut each one out, which took awhile, but was soooooo worth it!  Here are some closer up shots of the board.

Here is a picture of my classroom door.  It is simple, yet so cute!

I used blue letters and the Fabulous 50's Bulletin Board set.  I still need to get my giant records hung over each table.  I hope to get that done over the weekend.  Next, I'll be working on my inside bulletin board!  I am really lovin' this theme!  :)

Fifties Classroom Theme

Fifties Classroom Theme

This year, our 4th grade team is doing a music theme of the decades.  I am doing the fifties!  I am so excited because I love this era:  leather jackets, saddle oxford shoes, drive in theater, records, and on and on.  So... over the past couple of days I began making my first decoration for the classroom.  These records will hang over each table or group of desks in my classroom.  Below are the pictures of the records.

My sweet husband works at a printing press.
These "roll cushions" are made of cardboard and are usually recycled.

Next, I used my netted side dish cover to trace a circle for the inside color of the record.
I got this one at Big Lots.

Then, I used acrylic paint to trace the pencil lines.  I picked my colors based on the records on a border I'm using in the class.

I painted the inside on both sides.  I did one side on all six boards and let dry.  After they were dry, I did the other sides.  Later, I painted the black on both sides.  It dried really quickly!  Last, I painted the song titles on both sides.  I can't wait to hang these up in my class tomorrow!  Below are the finished records!  :)
